I am looking at having interpreters at a conference in 2004, but as this is a new area for me, what information do you need from me to supply a quote?

We will need to know:
   • The languages for which you require interpreters
   • Date and location of the meeting, including country
     and venue
   • Topic of the meeting
   • An indication of the working hours
   • How many delegates are expected
   • Whether equipment will be required and if so, how
many microphones will be needed (we are happy to
     advise)

The cost for conference interpretation is higher than I expected - why is that?
You will find our costs are competitive.

Conference interpreters are highly-trained, experienced professionals who are in high demand - and this often necessitates them travelling to NZ meetings from overseas.

The work of a conference interpreter is intense and demanding.

Interpretation services add infinite value to the experience of non-English speaking delegates at the meeting.

Why do we need more than one interpreter for a 2-day meeting?
Intense concentration is required and as such the industry standard requires that conference interpreters work in teams of three, taking turns approximately every half-hour.

What are the main languages available in the region for conference interpreting?
The primary languages are French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian.

Are there many trained conference interpreters available in New Zealand?
No, to our knowledge, there are currently only two.

Where are other interpreters sourced from?
Mainly from Australia, New Caledonia and Asia.

I am looking for simultaneous interpretation equipment for an upcoming conference/meeting/workshop. Can you supply this?
Yes - please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

What is the difference between consecutive and simultaneous interpretation?
Consecutive: when an interpreter listens to a segment of speech, takes notes, and soon after renders it into a second language. The speaker pauses regularly to let the interpreter speak. This method is suitable for small gatherings and requires little equipment.

Simultaneous: is generally used at multilingual conferences. The interpreters sit in soundproof booths listening to the event through their receivers. At the same time, ie simultaneously, they verbally translate what they hear into a second language. Delegates can listen to their chosen language through their own receivers.
